This stage starts in the heart of the Meduna Valley, in the silent woods with only a few houses scattered here and there, from the small village of Campone. Once a prosperous hamlet, it is now a tourist destination visited by lovers of peace and tranquillity and those seeking to escape to another time and place.
Once you leave this distant dimension, you enter a world with a sense of antiquity, made up of beech woods and meadows, a remnant of the rural life in the mountains, of the hardships and also of the skills of those who live at one with nature.
Halfway through this short but quite challenging stage, you will come across Pradis, a hamlet with a lot to tell in terms of landscape and history.
Its cave and gorge attract visitors and schoolchildren, as well as spelunkers from all over Europe. If you stop here for a break, you will soon understand why. These places have been visited since ancient times: archaeologists have found numerous traces of animals and prehistoric hunters, such as the Neanderthal man, a clear proof of the relevance of this site thousands of years ago.
The stage ends with a surprising panoramic view. On a clear day, you can see the whole of the Friulian plain as far as the Gulf of Trieste and Istria. It is not by chance that the village of Clauzetto, where this stage ends, is known as the “Balcony of Friuli”.
