Another short detour will take you to the small town of Vajont, which takes its name from the infamous dam in the Friulian Dolomites that collapsed decades ago. You will soon realize that the town is new and has a modern look: the municipality of Vajont was created in 1971 to host some of the survivors of the 1963 dam accident.
The town of Vajont is unique as it was designed by Giuseppe Samonà, one of the most prestigious town planners of the time, as a kind of ideal village, inspired by Greek and Roman town planning.
